Lucilla

Lucilla is a 48-page illustrated book published in Spanish by Fundación SM in 2020. It was made possibile thanks to the International Award for Illustration Children Book Fair - Fundación SM, which I was awarded with in 2019.

The narrative finds its origins in the tale of Tom Thumb (Pollicino). It emerged from a contemplation on the values embedded within the story and their relevance to the rural communities of that era, juxtaposed with their discordance in contemporary capitalist societies. Retaining the pivotal event of Tom Thumb's tale, wherein the children are left in the forest by their impoverished parents, I have reimagined the story completely, starting from its protagoinists, steering it towards a new trajectory that explores themes of migration and harmonious coexistence with nature.
